You ever have a time in your life when you feel like you’re drowning under a pile of laundry, kids, and dirty dishes?
That was me not that long ago.
Hey y’all, it’s Tiffany.
As many of you know already, I have severe Crohn’s disease. In our 6 years of marriage, I’ve been admitted to the hospital close to 40 times. That doesn’t include endless doctor appointments and ER visits.
For a few years, it was really bad. I was admitted 10 times in 5 months. As you can imagine, coming home after that time was rough. Phillip had been on his own as a single dad (more or less) for much of that. And I came home still exhausted and sick, barely able to leave the house.
My house constantly felt dirty, crusty, and cluttered. I never let any friends over to visit me because I was so embarrassed at the mounds of laundry covering the couches and dirty dishes constantly overflowing the sink.
When I had a bit of energy, cleaning up the house so I could have friends over was the last thing I wanted to do. I wanted to spend time with my kids. But I also felt really lonely.
But finally I started to make small progress. I got some energy, and I learned a secret that kept my laundry under control (and off the couch!). I figured out how to simplify meal times to cut down on dishes, and I learned how to spot the clutter zones in my house (and how to get rid of them).
I throw open the door when friends stop by unannounced now. It’s not that my home is ever spotless, but it’s comfortable and I always have a clean mug and a free couch cushion for a friend. 😉
But I haven’t forgotten how desperate and lonely I felt back then…
